Orthodontics and Invisalign

Invisalign

If you’ve suffered from crooked teeth for long enough, but are put off by the thought of wearing traditional metal braces, Dr. Kirshen has another option that might just work for you: Invisalign invisible braces.
Using the most innovative technology in dentistry today, Invisalign uses a series of comfortable, removable, transparent aligners to gradually straighten your teeth. The sequencing of treatment once we have established that Invisalign is the best treatment option over conventinal braces is to take precise impressions of your jaws just like we do when making crowns or bridges and to send them to the company along with x-rays and photos so that the computer program can best design a course of treatment for you. Teeth can be moved .25mm and de-rotated 2 degrees with each aligner. Each aligner must be worn for 2 weeks, approximately 20 hours per day. Mild cases can be treated with seven aligners over 14 weeks. More difficult cases can can use 20 or more aligners, but finish treatment within a year. Patient's compliance in wearing the aligners the correct length of time is paramount for success. Sometimes extra impressions are needed for mid course corrections or at the end to fine tune the result. The fees are all inclusive and can range from approximately $2000.00 for one arch in simple cases to $4,500.00 for a full complex case. At the end of Invisalign treatment or conventional orthodontics the end result must be preserved by using retainers. Dr. Kirshen with your input will best decide if fixed or removable retainers are your best option. Why wait another day to take the first step toward straighter teeth and a more beautiful smile? Orthodontics & Functional Orthopedics

Though both are considered Orthodontics, Orthopedics is usually initiated earlier in an effort to assure more favorable facial growth and jaw structure. Different influences act upon the developing lower face almost from birth and it is important to try to and counteract these negative influences early and allow for more normal development. Well timed functional therapy can have an astounding influence on your child's development often discouraging mouth breathing, poor sleep habits and a slow physical growth pattern. Functional orthopedics is usually therapy of short duration, may involve removable appliances and often makes more extensive therapy (braces) unnecessary.
Functional Orthopedics are a great way to help younger patients avoid many of the conditions that have plagued their parents, such as: poor sleep habits, T.M.J. pain, sleep apnea, small lower jaws (weak chin profile), protruded upper teeth (buck teeth) that my lead to poor self-image.
Orthodontics, more classically involves the use of braces that are bonded to the teeth. These braces allow us to control the teeth accurately so that we can fine tune their relationship to one another and create that beautiful smile. The end result must be preserved by using retainers. Dr. Kirshen with your input will best decide if fixed or removable retainers are your best option. Why wait another day to take the first step toward straighter teeth and a more beautiful smile?
